The kidnapped Cross River State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Professor Gertrude Njar, has been rescued by operatives of the 13 Brigade of Nigerian Army along Jebbs Creek in Calabar South Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the Brigade Public Relations officer, Captain Tope Aluko, troops of Operation Akapkwu laid ambush for the kidnappers around Peter Effiong Creek, Messembe, Jebs Creek which took the kidnappers by surprise while in search of the victim.
The statement said in the ensuing stand-off, the criminals abandoned the victim and fled into the creeks. Aluko says the rescued Commissioner is currently receiving medical treatment, after which she will be discharged to meet with her family.

The statement urges troops to sustain the tempo against all criminal elements in the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility even as the Commander commended their efforts.
Professor Getrude Njar was on February 1, 2023, kidnapped around Mayne Avenue area of Calabar South Local Government Area of the state.
