The crew of Artemis II has safely returned to Earth, marking the first human journey around the Moon in over 50 years.
The Orion spacecraft re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at 400,000 feet, experiencing a six-minute communications blackout before completing a 13-minute descent and splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
Commander Reid Wiseman confirmed all crew members were safe, as recovery teams moved them to the USS John P. Murtha for medical checks before returning to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
During the mission, the crew traveled over 700,000 miles at speeds exceeding 24,000 miles per hour. NASA also released striking images, including “Earthset” and a rare total solar eclipse observed from space.
The mission stands as a major milestone in modern human space exploration.
