Catholics in Kano on Monday joined their counterparts across the country to observe the ash Wednesday signifying the commencement of the 40-days Lenten period for Christians.
Parishioners who gathered to receive the ashes on their forehead were charged to refrain from sin and practice alms giving during the period and beyond.
They were asked by the officiating priest tp refrain from sins and comit to alms giving during the lenten season.

The parishioners said the Lenten season afford them another opportunity to be sober and return back to God for forgiveness.
The ashes were placed on the hands of the parishioners for self administration to avoid body contact in adherence to covid-19 safety protocols.
