The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has issued a15-day ultimatum in line with the extant laws on Federal Government through Federal Ministry of Education and National Bord of Technical Education, NBTE.
The ultimatum is for the Federal Government to suspend provisions contained in the anomalies in a contentious document titled “Scheme of Service for Polytechnics” with a view to review such provisions or face diverse forms of industrial action.
The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi chapter of the Union made this known during a media conference after its emergency congress at its secretariat.
According to the ASUP leaders of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, there has been extensive deliberation on the content of the controversial document at the 10th meeting of the Union’s National Executive Council.
The Union also condmned in strong terms, discrimination against holders of Higher National Diploma, HND certificate against holders of degrees from University as was further entrenched in the document.
According to them, the release of documents by the NBTE seeking approval for amendment of others amounts to mourning mood in the sector imposed by the release of the contentious scheme of service which is unsatisfactory.
