The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC have accused the Nigerian Government of perceived double standards over the ongoing university workers’ strike, insisting it is bound to create a huge percentage of brain drain in the country’s University education System.
Presidents of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke and NLC, Ayuba Wabba raised these concerns in Abuja at the Central Working Committee meeting of the NLC.
Apart from ASUU strike, NASU, SSANU and NAAT are all on strike, grounding activities in Public Universities
A major bone of contention in ASUU/FG face-off, apart from the demand for the renegotiation of 2009 agreement, is the demand for the adoption of a self–created payment system, UTAS over Government’s owned IPPIS.
Government has continuously picked holes in the UTAS system being proposed by ASUU
While ASUU laments and remain at home, Government Engages in Politicking ahead of 2023, and the students remain confused, frustrated and dejected.
