The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, IBBUL, in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria says, it has given the State Government two-week ultimatum to address all issues regarding their demands, or face an indefinite industrial action.
ASUU Chairman, Abdul Muhammed, who gave the ultimatum, also advised the State Government to brace up on its responsibility of adequate funding, to arrest the emergent rot and decay on the campus, despite the intervention efforts of Tertiary Education Fund, TETFund, whose funds the Federal Government is channelling to the Students Education Loan Scheme.

Arising from an emergency meeting, members of the Union displayed various placards with inscriptions saying, they are workers and not slaves. They are, therefore asking the Niger State Government to do the needful to save the university.
Some of the demands by ASUU are the renegotiation of the FGN-ASUU 2009 Agreement, the non-constitution of a Governing Councils, non-implementation of 25% and 35% salary increases, and the issue of proliferation of universities.

Others are delay in payment of the 7.5% pension refund, inadequate learning facilities and other infrastructure and the arrears of earned academic allowances.
Muhammed said they are giving the State Government a two-week grace, after which they will embark on an indefinite industrial action.
