Students of the Federal University in Lokoja have joined their counterparts across the federation to issue a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria, to urgently resolve the lingering issues with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or they would be left without any option, but to embark on a nationwide protest to drive home their demand.
The President of the Students’ Union Government at the Federal University in Lokoja, Comrade Oguche Ufedo, who led his members on a peaceful protest in Lokoja, accused the Federal Government of playing politics with their education.
Ogwuche said in the next seven days, if the strike is not called off, they will be forced to join their counterparts to occupy federal roads in the country.
The angry students also want the National Assembly to review the age clause in the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Act since most of their productive years are affected by incessant strikes on campus.
The student body advised ASUU to mobilize its members who will be serving as returning officers in the 2023 General Elections against money bags, whom they said, use and dump them to suffer.
The students also appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to speedily conclude the eighty billion Naira allegation, levelled against the Accountant-General of the Federation, whose office they said, has generated controversies around the IPPIS.
