The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC President Ayuba Wabba has directed over 40 unions to begin mobilisation for nationwide mega protest in solidarity with members of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU who are on strike for over four months.

Wabba while speaking on a range of issues at the National Executive Council meeting of the Congress said Zamfara, Abia, Taraba and Cross River States are yet to implement the N30,000 national minimum wage. Labour however says it will seek a review of workers salaries after 14 years.

After the expiration of a three-week ultimatum given to the Federal Government to resolve the protracted ASUU strike, NLC is now mobilising for a mega protest to further push for university classrooms to reopen.

On the sack of teachers by the Kaduna State Government, the NLC calls for a commission of inquiry, while throwing its weight in support of modular refineries to solve the perenial scarcity of petroleum products.

The Congress challenged the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan to publish the names of behind the acclaimed 70,000 ghost workers identified by IPPIS that claims to have saved N220 billion.

As Labour knocks government on persistent epileptic electricity supply, it bemoans rising inflation resulting in high cost of goods and services, calling for social security safety net for workers

Labour was quick to ask government to deploy technology in the fight against criminality and terrorists as it calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2023
