The Benin zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has accused the Federal and some State governments of failing to fully implement the 2025 agreement reached with the Union, warning that public universities may face another round of industrial crisis if urgent steps are not taken.
The University teachers made their position known during a Press conference held at the University of Benin.
The Coordinator of ASUU Benin Zone, Professor Monday Igbafen, told journalists the Union is dissatisfied with what it describes as the Federal Government’s failure to “faithfully” implement the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement unveiled earlier this year, among several other concerns.
The Benin Zone of ASUU is now demanding for the immediate and full implementation of the said 2025 agreement by both Federal and State governments, payment of all outstanding arrears and the inauguration of the Implementation Monitoring Committee without further delay.
The ASUU Benin Zone comprises of; the University of Benin; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Delta State University, Abraka; Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko; and other universities across Edo, Delta and Ondo States.
