At least 9 people have been confirmed dead and two others critically injured in a late evening attack on a relaxation spot at Douruwa Babuje community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.
Confirming the attack, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement, Rwang Tengwong, said gunmen stormed the relaxation spot at about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.
The spokesperson for the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, Captain Chinonso Oteh, said troops received a distress call and swiftly mobilized to the area.
Captain Chinonso Oteh added that security operatives have commenced investigations to track down the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.
According to the spokesperson for the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, efforts are ongoing to maintain calm in the area as security presence has been reinforced.
