Security operatives and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA have opened an investigation into an altercation on United Nigeria Airline between two well known Nigerian social media influencers: VeryDarkMan, widely known as VDM, and media figure Mr. Jollof.
Video footage taken onboard the plane show the two men throwing punches and sparking panic among passengers. While details remain murky, eyewitnesses describe a heated argument that escalated into a physical scuffle.
According to passengers, VDM whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse confronted Mr. Jollof, whose given name is Freedom Atsepoyi, over long-standing social media accusations.
The pair have been engaged in a bitter online feud for months. VDM has publicly accused Mr. Jollof of promoting betting and prostitution in his content, even questioning the influencer’s role as Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor.
On the other side, Mr. Jollof has fired back, calling VDM’s personal life into question – even demanding that he publicly clarify his sexuality.
It’s unclear what exactly triggered Monday’s confrontation – whether it was a continuation of their online war or a spontaneous argument blown out of proportion. However, video footages shows VDM stand up, visibly agitated, pointing and shouting as Mr. Jollof responded, and things quickly turned physical.
Officials of the airline said in full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, the aircraft crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation as both passengers were deboarded without delay and handed over to security.
It is another shocking development, and one that raises serious questions about influencer accountability – and what happens when online rivalry spills into real-world confrontation.
AIT.live has reached out to VDM, Mr. Jollof and NCAA for comment.
