Authorities move IDPs out of Niger State capital

Internally displaced persons, IDPs who have for about a week been putting up with some of their friends and relatives in different parts of the Niger State capital, Minna, have been relocated by the authorities.

About 3,500 of them have so far been moved, and concentrated at the same place, so that the collection of their biometrics will be easier.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sani Idris, says the Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello, has ordered the State Emergency Management Agency to move the affected persons to the new IDPs camp in Gwada, Shiroro Local Government Area.

Idris assured the IDPs that the State Government will ensure that their welfare is taken care of, until the security challenges in their respective communities improve.

Already food items and other essential commodities are being provided. The Commissioner added that the food and non-food items have been handed over to camp officials.

He further explained that Niger State and the Federal Government are working assiduously, to ensure that the security challenges faced by the people of the State are arrested soonest.

The State Government has provided security personnel and deployed officials of the Ministry of Health to take charge of health-related matters in the camp.
