The Plateau State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service says it has detained all personnel on duty on the day 4 inmates awaiting trial escaped from its Custodial Centre in Jos, pending the conclusion of investigations.

Controller-in-Charge of the Command, Samuel Aguda confirmed the development to newsmen in Jos, the state capital.

Recall that 4 inmates who are herdsmen awaiting trial escaped from the Jos Custodial Centre for the second time on Thursday, July 8.

The escapees were amongst the 5 herdsmen arraigned before the Barkin Ladi Court in 2020 but were able to escape after some gunmen stormed the court premises and overpowered the correctional warders but 4 of them were later re-arrested after an intensive search by security personnel.

Aguda who attributed the latest incident to negligence on the part of personnel on duty said the Command has commenced investigation to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the incident.

He said they have also constituted Search Party who visited motor parks, markets and other places in search of the 4 escapees, who are awaiting trial over abduction and armed robbery, but none has been arrested yet.

While giving assurance that any officer and personnel of the Service that is found wanting in the incident would be punished, Aguda called on residents of the State to avail the Service information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing inmates.
