The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, PCN, has sealed-off over 300 patent medicine stores and pharmacies in Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria for various unethical practices, breach of the law and selling of drugs that are dangerous to public health.

Addressing journalists in Lokoja, the state capital after a three-day enforcement in various parts of the state, PCN Director and Head of Enforcement, Stephen Esumobi said unregulated sale of drugs is dangerous to public health and security.

Esumobi revealed that there is an inseparable relationship between crime and illicit administration of drugs by patents store owners.

As it is in the practice of pharmacy in Nigeria, the Council said registration of practitioners and premises are critical issues that will be strictly enforced going forward.

Some of the medicine stores sealed off are expected to interface with the Council to make proof or otherwise of allegations that led to closure of their premises. Meanwhile, the Council vows to continually put public health ahead of monetary gains.
