There has been a confirmed case of Avian Influenza in a cluster of poultry farms in Niger State. Over 50, 000 birds worth millions of Naira have so far been lost, as a result of the outbreak.
The disease, according to a statement from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development, is a huge socio-economic challenge as it affects man and animals.

The statement advised poultry farmers to report any suspected case of sudden mortality to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. It also further called on them to maintain farm hygiene and also restrict the movement of vehicles and people into their farms.
The statement further reminded the farmers to disinfect their farm premises, utensils, and equipment, as part of measures to avert the transmission of the virus.
