The Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has told heads of agencies who are nurturing plans to loot public funds budgeted for the development of the sector to immediately resign from their positions.
Keyamo, at the official induction training of Aviation Chief Executive Officers and signing of the performance bond in Abuja, said the Ministry under his leadership will not entertain misappropriation of funds and poor performance.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also explained that the Federal government has commenced the payment of over $600million trapped funds, as part payment of debts owed to foreign airlines, noting that his Ministry was working on putting more plans in place to ensure that the remaining funds were disbursed.
ait.live recalls that on Monday, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had announced that it has further paid $61.64 million out of the $700 million claimed repatriated funds by foreign airlines, as part of their trapped funds.
In the last three months, the Nigerian Apex bank has successfully redeemed outstanding forward liabilities amounting to nearly $2 billion.
The Minister also noted that the uncompleted project of Nigeria Air which he met on the ground is not befitting, as his leadership is working on establishing an international best practices for the country.
For Air flight ticket prices to crash, Keyamo assured Nigerians that the Federal government is working with top aircraft manufacturers across the globe to bring planes into the country towards having access to lease them on dry leases at very good terms for a competitive market.
