Aviation workers in Lagos moved round the local section of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Ikeja, as their protest aimed at drawing government’s attention to issues relating to improved working conditions enters day two on Tuesday

Deputy General Secretary, ATSSSAN, one of the union’s in the aviation sector, Francis Akinjole says the only information the unions have received so far is a meeting currently holding between the national salaries, incomes and wages commission and the management of the various agencies involved.

Secretary-General , ANAP, Abdularazaq Seidu says in the last seven years, there has been no governing board of directors in all parastatals in the aviation sector, wondering why the minister, Hadi Sirika has refused to inaugurate the board after members were nominated under the current democratic dispensation.

The unions however threatened to ground international flights at the Lagos Airport if government fails to address their demands

The ongoing warning strike which began on Monday was called to draw the attention of government to concerns raised by the different aviation unions to include non-implementation of their conditions of service and minimum wage

The protesting unions include the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, National Association of Aircraft Pilot and Engineers and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation civil service technical and recreation services employees.
