The two governors left in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed have held a closed meeting in Bauchi state with the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Seriake Dickson

Though the meeting was passed off as simply a Sallah homage, speculations are rife that the three politicians are working towards forming a solid partnership towards 2027

It comes amid the leadership wrangling facing the PDP and growing uncertainty over planned reconciliation

Governor Bala Mohammed and his Oyo state counterpart Seyi Makinde are the two governors left in the PDP

They were the ones who pushed for the elective national convention that held last November, leading to the emergence of the Kabiru Turaki National Working Committee.

But the party is slipping out of their grips as the Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee has since secured major legal victories against them with a legal recognition from INEC as a bonus

The Makinde and Bala Mohammed backed Turaki NWC are now faced with two scenarios- risk it out at the Supreme Court or settle politically with the Wike camp.

It is in this context that Makinde’s visit to Bala Mohammed in Bauchi state is seen as more than just a regular visit.

And, with Senator Seriake Dickson who is now leading the newly formed Nigerian Democratic Congress NDC, locked in the same meeting with Makinde and Mohammed, the stakes could be much higher

But for Governor Seyi Makinde who spoke to journalists afterwards, it was simply a Sallah homage

His host, Bala Mohammed, also agreed with him.

On the crises within the PDP, the two Governors shared their thoughts on the planned reconciliation

They insist the PDP remains Nigeria’s best alternative 2027 – a PDP
