Suspected terrorists have abducted over a hundred persons when they launched an attack on the Mutunji community in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
The attack was said to have occurred on Friday night when one terrorist’s leader Identified as Damina, led terrorists to the Mutunji community after the Isha’i prayer, attacking residents of the troubled community.
The Terrorist kingpin, Damina launched the attack on the community that was unable to pay the one hundred million naira levy which they had been taxed by the terrorists, if they failed to comply with would face their wrath.
According to the locals Damina and his terror group have been imposing heavy taxes on villages around the troubled area for residents to pay to avoid their attack, killing, and abduction of members of the affected villages.
The Friday attack came when members of the Mutunji community were making efforts to collect the funds so that they could pay them to leave the affected community alone, but unfortunately, the terrorists invaded and abducted over one hundred persons, including men and children.
Eyewitness accounts said Damina gave the Mutunji community a one-week ultimatum to produce 50 million naira or else risk an attack on their community.
The other villages on which terrorists imposed levy, included Kwana, 30 million nairas, Sabon Mahuta 20 million nairas, and Unguwar Kawo10 million nairas, to pay, which they contributed to one hundred and ten million naira.
ait.live gathered that there was no casualty recorded during the attack in the Mutunji community, except for the abduction of over one hundred persons by the terrorists.
In another development, the terrorists had imposed a levy of three million naira, on the Tofa Magami community, which the residents said they pleaded with them, and the terrorists reduced the amount to one point three million Naira.
The community was able to raise three hundred thousand Naira and is struggling to raise the remaining money.
According to them, the terrorists have warned the community that if they failed to produce the amount imposed on them as levy, they should be ready to face an attack from them.
The residents are however appealing to the government and security agencies to to intensify efforts to dislodge the terrorists from Zamfara State and restore peace.
They also asked the government to listen to advice from the locals who could assist in tackling the banditry that has bedeviled Zamfara State.
