The Deputy Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly and Member representing Faskari Constituency, Dalhatu Tafoki, has confirmed the abduction of his about-to-wed younger sister, Asma’u Dalhatu, in a fresh attack by suspected bandits.

The deputy speaker confirmed that the gunmen stormed his Tafoki village in Faskari Local Government Area at about 1.00 am early Sunday morning, September 5 and abducted the victim.

Tafoki added that the suspected bandits headed straight to the village head’s residence, which is their family home, and abducted two of his sisters.

He further explained that on the way to the forest, they encountered some members of the vigilante group who exchanged gunfire.

The deputy speaker said, in the process, one of the girls escaped and returned home, but the other could not.

Tafoki further said, the abductors are yet to make any demand of ransom, while the incident has been reported to the security agencies.

The police are, however, yet to comment on the incident.

The incident is coming less than 48 hours after gunmen stormed Kurami village in Bakori Local Government Area of the state, where they abducted the wife and 2 children of Dr Ibrahim Kurami who is also a member of the Katsina State House of Assembly, and less than 5 days after the Secretary to the State Government, SSG’s elder brother was also abducted.

Bakori Local Government Area to Faskari where the recent abduction took place, is about 42 kilometres.

With these three recent abductions involving Katsina State lawmakers and that of the elder brother of the Secretary to the State Government, the trend seem to have shifted from the abduction of ordinary citizens to highly placed personalities in the state.
