Suspected bandits have shot dead a truck driver and abducted an unspecified number of travellers from three cars, along the Funtua-Gusau Highway.
The bandits were said to have blocked the road for about 30 minutes, shooting sporadically.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred near Magazu community, in the Tsafe Local Government area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
The Nigerian Army team responded quickly after receiving a distress call.
They came in four-gun trucks and pursued the bandits into the bush, freeing the road for stranded motorists.
One of the motorists who narrowly escaped by making a u-turn, narrated that the bandits were in large number.
As of the time of filing this report, the police were yet to make an official statement on the incident.
