After 9 days in captivity, bandits have released the former Director of Public Affairs of the National Broadcasting Commission and a former Managing Director of the Katsina State Television, KTTV, Ahmed Abdulkadir, but are still holding on to his 15-year-old daughter, Laila Ahmed.

A source close to the family said that Abdulkadir was released in the evening of Thursday, September 10, but did not say whether ransom was paid.

Though it could be recalled that the bandits had earlier requested 70 million Naira ransom, 50 million Naira for the release of Abdulkadir, while pegging that of his daughter, for 20 million.

It was gathered that as a result of the development, friends and families began contributing by tasking themselves to raise the said amount.

Confirming Abdulkadir’s release, the source said his daughter, Laila, who is seriously sick is still with them.

When contacted for comments, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police command, Superintendent of Police Gambo Isah said, the command is yet to get a formal report, due to the seizure of the network affecting the Bakori Local Government Area.

Isah also said that the command cannot say if ransom was paid, as the police are against the payment.
