No fewer than seven dreaded bandits suspected to have been terrorising Wase and other communities in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, have surrendered and turned in their weapons which include 7 AK 47 to security agencies in the State.
The Plateau State government said in Jos, the capital city that the feat was made possible with the cooperation of the Wase Local Council authorities and leaders of the local Vigilante groups.
The non kinetic approach to security challenges facing Plateau has started yielding positive results as explained by the Special Adviser to Plateau State Governor on Security, Brig. Gen. Gakji Shipi (Rtd) who while addressing Journalists disclosed that, so far seven AK47 weapons have already been turned in by the bandits who are alleged to have been terrorising Wase and other parts of the State.
Gen. Shipi who also doubles as the Coordinator of Operation Rainbow said the suspected bandits were initially afraid to come out, for fear of victimisation, but had willingly returned their weapons and renounced violence.
The Special Adviser commended the efforts of the Wase Council Chairman, Hamisu Anani, the Vigilante groups, the DSS and other security agencies, and noted that the latest moves form part of the government’s efforts to restore peace in the State.
