A Kano State High Court has sentenced a Bank employee Rabiu Hassan to 17 years in prison, over charges bordering on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and falsification of accounts, to the tune of five hundred and sixty-one million Naira.
Rabiu Hassan, a former employee of an old generation bank, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, on 28 count charges.
At the sitting in Kano, the prosecuting counsel, Aisha Habib, had informed the court, of how the accused person, Rabiu Hassan, conspired to defraud the bank, by diverting funds and altering figures, to show cash deliveries, whereas the monies were never delivered.

She, therefore, wants the court to order the final forfeiture of the accused person’s properties. But Counsel to the defendant, Maaruf Yakasai, says the charges before the court, are not enough to sentence his client to prison and pleaded for leniency.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, exonerated the accused person from the 21 count charges of the 28 levelled against him, and sentenced him to 17years in prison, with a fine of 1.4million Naira.
The prosecuting counsel expressed satisfaction with the ruling, while the defendant counsel said, his client will appeal the judgement.
