It was another weekend of tragedy in Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government when a Primera car coming from the Ogbagi end of Ado Ekiti Ikare Road lost control and killed one person, injuring two others.

AIT gathered that the car was on high speed while descending the hill at Okorun area of Ikare. The driver was said to be shouting to alert people that the brakes of his car had failed. The vehicle eventually knocked down two men on a motorcycle, killing one person.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Ikare Unit were promptly on hand for rescue operation.

The Unit Head and Acting Unit Commander, Kabir Mohammed confirmed that one person lost his life, while two others who were critically injured had been admitted at the State Specialist Hospital Ikare Akoko.

Mohammed said the accident was as a result of brake failure. He urged motorists to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the road.

He also confirmed that the driver of the Primera car survived the accident. Meanwhile, some residents of Ikare Akoko have reacted to the incessant accident in the town.

They lamented that the accident occurred at the same spot where four lives were lost a fortnight ago, due to brake failure, while a similar one occurred at Okerigbo.

The residents urged the government to curb incessant motor accidents by dualising the road, which is one of the gateways to Ekiti State.
