Residents of Yelwa Kagadama, a suburb of the Bauchi State capital, has decried security threats in an abandoned school, closed by the Bauchi State Government over a decade ago.
The community’s complaint is coming barely a week, after the state’s Assembly member representing Zungur Galambi Constituency, Danlami Kawule, moved a motion on the same issue, demanding the state government to put the facility into use, in a bid to curb the menace.
Government Day Secondary School, Baba Tanko, has been closed for over a decade, following a conflict that erupted from the school, which later escalated to the environs.
Today, as a result of the closure, the children of this community have to trek for between 5-6 kilometres to pursue education at the Government Day Secondary School Gwallameji and other schools.
The community members want the state government to reconsider the reopening of the school, as they decried security threats in the abandoned facility.
Danlami Kawule is a member representing the Zungur Galambi Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
He speaks on the efforts he has been making after receiving complaints from members of the community.
The community and the state Assembly members are hopeful that the Bauchi State Government will soon come to their aid, and put the facility into use again.
