Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and other relevant authorities to consider adjusting pre-election activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor said the appeal is aimed at accommodating Muslim spiritual obligations, particularly the Hajj pilgrimage.
He said this at a farewell address to the 2026 Bauchi State intending pilgrims at the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Hajj Transit Camp in Bauchi, North-East Nigeria.
Addressing the intending pilgrims, Governor Mohammed expressed concern over the number of political actors who had planned to participate in this year’s Hajj but may be unable to do so due to overlapping political activities.
According to him, the Day of Arafat is expected to coincide with the period some political parties will conduct their primary elections.
He therefore called on relevant authorities to review the timetable and make necessary adjustments in the interest of inclusivity and respect for religious obligations.
While bidding farewell to over 2,000 intending pilgrims from Bauchi State, the Governor urged them to be law-abiding citizens and worthy ambassadors of the state and Nigeria at large.
He also called on them to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Bauchi State and the country.
