The Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared war against the illegal felling of trees and other unwholesome environmental practices across Bauchi State.
Governor Bala Mohammed gave the declaration during the flag-off of the annual tree-planting campaign in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria to address the effects of climate change and desertification.
The 2023 annual tree planting campaign was flagged off at the 1,000 Affordable Housing Units in Dungal, Miri community, on the outskirts of the Bauchi metropolis.
The Governor expressed concerns over the increase in illegal felling of trees, which has resulted in desertification and environmental degradation across the state.
He noted that planting trees is key to creating a healthy and desirable living environment for both humans and other creatures.

The Governor directed the ministries involved, to engage more youths in planting thousands of trees across the state, for sustainable development.
Other speakers at the event commended Governor Mohammed’s administration, for ensuring that a conducive environment is provided across the state, for the success of the campaign, and advocated for more economic trees to be planted.
The 2023 annual tree planting campaign has as its theme, “Tree planting, an efficient tool to tackle climate change”.
