The Bauchi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of seven journalists from Gombe State along the Billiri–Kumo Road.

The victims, who included five staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and two other media practitioners, were reportedly returning from the wedding ceremony of a colleague when the fatal accident occurred.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, the incident was described as heartbreaking and a great loss, not only to the media industry but also to the entire North-East region and the nation at large.

The statement noted that journalists play a vital role in strengthening democracy, promoting unity, and informing the public, making their sudden deaths deeply painful.

“As a journalist by profession and a close neighbour to Gombe State, Governor Bala Mohammed commiserates with the Government and people of Gombe State, the management and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at both the national and Gombe State levels, as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased,” the statement said.

While wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the Governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and asked Almighty Allah to grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear the great loss.
