In a bid to decongest custodial centres across Bauchi State in North-East Nigeria, Governor Bala Mohammed has granted pardon to 153 inmates. This follows recommendations by the State Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.
Governor Mohammed said the gesture is part of his administration’s efforts towards ensuring speedy dispensation of criminal Justice as many are awaiting trial in custodial centres on minor offences. The 153 inmates include two female and seven minors from the remand home who recieved the state pardon.

Bauchi State Comptroller of the Correctional Service, Aliyu Bajoga who described the event as record breaking in the history of the State Command and beyond. He commended the Governor for the gesture and appealed to the State Government to equip the workshops of the custodial centres with state-of-the art equipment to enable them train the inmates on various practical skills.
Some speakers at the event include the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and the State Chief Judge among others who used the occasion to call on the freed inmates to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture by avoiding crime and criminality thereby becoming useful citizens in the society.
