The Police in the Bauchi State Command have arrested one Ibrahim Liman for allegedly killing an 8-year-old boy, Kamal Aliyu in the Runjin Gani area of Toro Local Government of Bauchi State.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakili, said the arrest was made through a credible intelligence by the Divisional Police Officer, which led to the apprehension of the 23 year-old suspect, who the security agents said is a close neighbour to the victim’s family.
According to the statement, the Police claim that during the interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual, whose identity is yet to be known, to kidnap the victim, by luring him under the pretence of delivering a message to his father, Ali Runji.
“On August 4, 2024, Kamal Aliyu was reported kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani Village, in Toro LGA of Bauchi State.
“In response, the Division Police Officer, (DPO) Toro Police Divisional Headquarters, launched an intensive Search and Rescue Operation in the area, that led to the arrest of the perpetrator, Ibrahim Liman.”
The statement further said that the suspect admitted to taking the young boy into a nearby bush, where they killed him and buried his body in a shallow grave.
In addition, the suspect also disclosed that they had demanded a ransom of N200,00 from the victim’s father who complied, and took the ransom money to a designated location, but the suspects were unable to receive the ransom, due to the presence of security operatives in the nearby area.
To ensure justice in the matter, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed, has directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), for a thorough investigation.
The Command has extended its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring the public that efforts are being made to bring all of those involved in the heinous crime to justice.
