Bauchi Stampede: 8-year-old killed as death toll rises to seven people

Death toll from Sunday’s stampede at the distribution of alms during Ramadan in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria has officially been reviewed from four to seven with the youngest victim being an eight-year-old child.

This was confirmed by the State Police Command following an update provided by the Chief Medical Director of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU Teaching Hospital.

AIT.live gathered that several others are still being treated for injuries sustained during the deadly stampede

The victims and survivors mostly women and their children had gone to receive free N10,000 as part of the support “Zakaat” provided for vulnerable persons inline with Islamic injunctions during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Names of the victims have been given as:

  1. Aisha Usman ‘f’ aged 13 years of Gwang Gwang Gwang Bauchi
  2. Sahura Abubakar ‘f’ aged 55 years of Anguwan Bauchi
  3. Aisha Ibrahim Abubakar ‘f’ aged 43 years of Kobi Street Bauchi.
  4. Khadija Isah ‘f’ aged 8 years of Karofi Bauchi
  5. Maryam Suleiman ‘f’ aged 20 years of Kandahar Bauchi
  6. Maryam Shuibu f aged 16 years Gwang Gwan Gwan Bauchi
  7. Hassana Saidu f aged 53 years of Dutsen Tanshi Bauchi.

The names released are however only those who were rushed to the ATBU Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Some eye witnesses say other dead victims had already been taken away from the location by their relatives for burial.
