Bauchi State Government has presented appointment letters to 142 newly appointed District Heads across the 20 emirates and chiefdoms in the state, as part of efforts to strengthen traditional governance and grassroots administration.
Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Wabi, made this known during media briefing held at the Government House in Bauchi, North-East Nigeria.
According to him, the exercise is in line with the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 2025, which provides the legal framework for the restructuring and recognition of traditional institutions in the state.
Wabi explained that the implementation of the law led to the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdom, making it necessary to appoint qualified District Heads to effectively manage local affairs.
He noted that the appointments are expected to enhance coordination between traditional rulers and government authorities, particularly at the grassroots level.
The Commission Chairman commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his leadership and support for reforms in the traditional institution.
He also appreciates other key stakeholders for their cooperation, which ensured the successful implementation of the law.
He urged the newly appointed District Heads to uphold the values of fairness, accountability, and service to their communities, adding that the State Government remains committed to promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development through strong and responsive traditional institutions.
