The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has engaged Secondary School students from across Local Government Areas in a fabric competition, in the areas of creativity and craftsmanship.
The competition, according to the Commissioner for Education, Jamila Dahiru, is in line with the competition programme, recently launched by the wife of the Nigerian President, Oluremi Tinubu, among students to use their talents to showcase unity in diversity.
The competition was a displayed artistry and creativity by the participating schools, which was monitored by officials of the National Gallery of Arts.
With the theme, “Unity in Diversity,” it reflects the essence of the fabric competition, with the works symbolising how different patterns, colours and textures vary across cultures and traditions, as the organisers explained.
A student participant called on the Bauchi State Government to sustain fabric making, arts, crafts and other skill acquisition programmes in its curriculum, by establishing arts gallery studios in the various schools.
In the spirit of unity in diversity, the students acted out a short drama, in line with the new national anthem, recently adopted by the Nigerian government.
The best-performing students are expected to represent Bauchi State at the national level.
