Bayelsa 2023 budget: Gov. Diri proposes N385.2 billion

The Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has presented a budget of 385.2 billion naira to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

The budget christened “Sustainable Growth and Re-Construction 2023” is targeted to complete the ongoing critical infrastructural work, reconstruct the ones destroyed by the 2022 ravaging flood, drive public and private sectors, human capital development as well as mitigate the effects of climate change.

Before going into the business of the day, the house observed a minute silence to all those who lost their lives in the course of the prevailing flood.

The Governor thereafter gave a review of the year 2022 budget, placing the income and expenditure performance at 70.7% for nine months

Governor Diri proposed a budget estimate of N385.2 billion for the 2023 fiscal year which he says will be funded from the following sources, FAAC, derivation from crude oil, IGR, Grants, and Loans.

Sectorial breakdown of the budget saw the ministry of works and infrastructure having the lion’s share of N77.9 billion, followed by Education N40.4 billion and Agriculture N14.1 billion.

He noted that the government was kin in completing all ongoing projects, constructing new ones and reconstructing those degraded by the flood

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, gave the assurance of giving the proposal speedy passage but wanted more efforts to be put in place to improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
