Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri is displeased that until date, the number of persons missing in last Thursday’s boat mishap in Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Area is yet to be ascertained as there was no accurate data of how many pessengers boarded the boat from Yenagoa.

Governor Diri, therefore charged all relevant authorities in the transport sector, especially those in charge of the waterways, to ensure that all safety measures were duly complied with henceforth to avert another boat mishap.

According to reports from the State Police Command puts the figure of casualties as at Monday, April 10 at five. But it says, due to the unavailability of a manifest, the Command could not ascertain how many persons were still trapped underwater.

Governor Douye Diri who felt pained at the sad development warned that his administration will not hesitate to sanction anyone found wanting in the discharge of their duties as the government will no longer allow such avoidable accidents.
