Covid 19

As pupils in primary and secondary schools across Bayelsa State return to classes after the Christmas holidays, the authorities have been admonished on the need to enforce strict compliance to laid down Covid-19 preventive protocols.

A cross-section of education stakeholders in Yenagoa gave the admonition while airing their views on school resumption in the state, amid the hint of a second wave of the Covid-19 virus spreading nationwide.

With 557 Covid 19 cases recorded and 532 discharged after being treated, Bayelsa state as at the 13th of January 2021 sits at the 24th position on the NCDC infection rate statistics.

Against this background and amid a renewed surge of cases recorded across the country, some residents in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital open up on their feelings as primary and secondary schools reopen after the Christmas break.

Efforts to get information from the education ministry on plans to ensure the safety for pupils was unsuccessful as the commissioner could not be reached.
It appears the well-being of the the young students are in their own hands.

Although awareness of the Covid 19 pandemic is high in Bayelsa State, obedience to basic preventive procedures have not been fantastic in some public venues.

According to recent NCDC infection statistics for the state, 24 persons are still being treated, while 21 have died from Covid 19 related complications.
