Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state has ordered all neccessary organs of government to be reinforced and ensure that anyone found violating the state’s anti-open grazing law was punished accordingly.
Speaking during the state’s weekly executive council meeting this Wednesday, Governor Diri also called on land developers and farmers to seek other means of clearing weeds rather than burning them to avert fatal accidents around the communities.
It is the first official engagement of Governor Douye Diri after his return from annual leave and the last Executive council meeting of the Bayelsa state government in 2024
Governor Douye Diri in his opening remarks, reminded the people that the Bayelsa state anti open grazing law enacted in 2022 was still in force.

He warns those conniving with herders particularly traditional rulers to desist or face the wrath of the law when caught.
The problem of bush burning has been a recurring decimal during the dry season in Bayelsa state. It also formed part of the issues raised during the Exco meeting
Highlight of the 148 executive council meeting under the current administration was the presentation of awards to the Governor, received by his aides while he was on leave. They include, promotion of blue economy by the Nigerian today magazine and Best security conscious Governor of the year by Security Watch Africa and others.
The Governor also pronounced a N30million reward to the Bayelsa contingent who came overall best at the 2024 Nafest.
