Governor Douye Diri has told people of the State that electricity supply from Bayelsa’s Independent Power Plant when fully completed will not be free, insisting that residents must pay for electricity consumed as his administration targets 24-hour supply before the year ends.
The Governor made this known after an inspection tour 6 of the 8, 60-megawatt Gas Turbine project at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government.
The inspection tour which was the Governor’s first visit to the power plant since the arrival of the 6 Turbines in Yenagoa, equally had the State
Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, present.
Addressing journalists at the project site, the Governor said work is on course, promising the people of uninterrupted power supply before the Christmas festivities.
He added that an agreement had been entered with a private firm to establish a metering plant in the State, to ensure proper billing.
The Commissioner for Power and the Managing Director of the State Electricity Company assured that legal frameworks with distribution companies are being finalized to prevent disputes.
Governor Diri also inspected the 25,000-capacity stadium project at Igbogene and the 9-storey civil servants’ secretariat in Yenagoa, where he reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to complete major ongoing projects.
