Ahead of the November 11th Governorship election in Bayelsa state, Governor Douye Diri is advocating that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC involved the service of the Nigeria Air Force in the movement of sensitive materials and protective airlifting to save time and secure the process in the coastal areas.

Governor Diri was speaking when he played host to the newly posted security commanders to the state, this Tuesday in the government house, Yenagoa.

Newly posted security heads to Bayelsa state from the Nigerian Navy, Air Force, and Police , took turns to officially present themselves to the Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

How best to upgrade the existing security architecture and enhance the economic growth of the state and the country were the subjects of discussion.

At the meeting with the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command of the Nigerian Airforce, Air Vice Marshall Yusuf Oladele and Governor Diri expressed concerns over the movement of electoral materials to the riverine areas due to the peculiar terrain as the state moved closer to its governorship poll in November this year.

Addressing the new Flag Officer Commanding the Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ayuba Chugali, the Governor also wants the military to stop the burning of illegal crude oil vessels arrested in the maritime corridors of the Niger Delta, stressing that such activities were highly contributing to pollution of the environment.

Governor Diri was however hopeful that the security chiefs will perform their duties with professionalism like their predecessors.
