Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state says the timely intervention of his administration on the local government system has brought about accountability and transparency, leading to construction of projects and payment of salaries and saving about one billion naira for the councils
Governor Diri spoke on Monday while inaugurating a road project in Nembe council area as part of the ongoing statewide inauguration of projects executed by local councils in the state.

He stressed that his administration met several challenges facing local government councils which included inability to pay salaries, debts incurred, and difficulty in embarking on projects which are now a thing of the past.
The Governor also assured out going local government chairmen and councillors of their severance packages, as well as the payment of gratuity and pensions to retired council workers.
