The Bayelsa state judicial panel of inquiry on police brutality, extrajudicial killings, and related matters, has recommended the sum of twenty-one billion naira, as damages and compensation to the victims.
Submitting the reports with recommendations at the executive council meeting in Yenagoa, the Chairman of the Panel, Retired Justice Young Ogola, said that the amount was part of the fallout of judgments delivered on the forty cases determined by the panel.

The Justice Young Ogola panel was set up by Governor Douye Diri on October 2020.
As a fallout of the #EndSars nationwide protests, the panel was constituted to identify cases of police brutality and ensure that some measures were taken to placate the victims and their families.
Governor Douye Diri was represented by his deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who spoke on the government’s plans for the way forward.
Fifty cases were said to have been received by the panel, out of which eight were struck out, while two were adjourned due to similar issues ongoing in other courts.
