As the nationwide industrial action embarked upon by Resident Doctors lingers into it’s the fourth week, the impact on both patients and hospital management have been highlighted.

This was brought to the fore in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital at the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa where only very critical emergency cases are now been handled by few medical personnel available, while the rest are turned back.

Currently, the place is now a shadow of what it used to be as medical services have been drastically scaled-down, owing to the strike action by residents’ doctors.

Despite the empty wards, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Health Facility, Bernard Akpedi, says everything is going on smoothly.

Meanwhile, the Federal government has been urged to quickly resolve the lingering strike to save the country’s healthcare system from collapse.

Nigeria’s healthcare system which has deteriorated over the years has further been threatened, with much medical personnel desperately seeking to leave the country in search of greener pastures abroad.
