The Local Government elections in Bayelsa State billed for May 14th 2022 will no longer hold as scheduled.

Chairman of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, Boyle Oyarede who announced this at a meeting between top officials of the state’s electoral body and representatives of various political parties in the State, cited conflict with time issued by the commission and that of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as reason for the unfortunate development.
One of the representatives of the political parties present at the meeting, Eneye Zidougha said he was unhappy with the turn of events, noting that the situation could have been avoided through proper planning.
The Commission Chairman however expressed regrets over the postponement, saying a new date for the election would be announced to the public
