Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state says his administration is desirous of seeing citizens of the state take charge of the local economy to boost the socio-economic development of the state.
Governor Diri was speaking at the monthly empowerment scheme in Yenagoa, the state capital, as 840 women and youths received two hundred million naira as grants, charging beneficiaries to be challenged by their counterparts who are thriving in the private sector in other states.

Initiated in 2022 by the current administration of Governor Douye Diri, the monthly empowerment scheme is designed to encourage small and medium-scale enterprises for economic prosperity.
The 420 women and youths are drawn from the 105 wards across the eight local government areas monthly as beneficiaries.
This time, it is the January and February 2023 batches that are coming to share in the largess.

Bayelsa state is often referred to as a civil servants’ state; no thanks to the lack of an adequate private-driven sector. This empowerment scheme which has been in existence since February 2022 is expected to change the narrative.
