The Bayelsa State government has taken steps to decongest its correctional centers as it sets up a prerogative of mercy panel to review several bail applications awaiting trial.
At a security council meeting in Yenagoa, governor Douye Diri also directed the commissioner for health to take over the medical bills and treatment of the 17-year old and two others shot by a trigger-happy police officer last Tuesday in Tombia/Etegwe market axis of Yenagoa.

Expressing concerns over the increased number of inmates in the state correctional centres; the governor annouced the state decision to set up an advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy to decongest the facility.
