The Edo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of plotting to frustrate PDP from reclaiming the mandate duly given to it in the last governorship election at the Tribunal.
The PDP alleged that the APC resorted to deploying thugs disguised in PDP-branded attire to disrupt the legal process, while pointing accusing fingers at the PDP.
Gun wielding thugs had on Wednesday stormed the venue of the Tribunal in Benin shooting sporadically to scare staff of the Tribunal.
Chairman of the State PDP Caretaker Committee, Anthony Aziegbemi in a statement strongly dissociated the party and its members from the shooting incident and unequivocally affirmed that the incident is yet another in the series of clandestine efforts by the APC to frustrate the legal process and tarnish the image of the party.
Aziegbemi noted that the party is aware that its only pathway to justice is through the legal process, so it would be utterly senseless for anyone to suggest that the party would deploy thugs to disrupt this very process and jeopardize its own chances.
He urged the APC to exhibit more intelligence when concocting lies and peddling falsehoods to advance their devious plans and stated that the PDP had directed its supporters and members to stay away from Wednesday’s tribunal proceedings which was strictly adhered to.
The Chairman expressed surprise that the police did not arrest the individual who was shooting sporadically in public without restraint, and called on them and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that the gun-wielding thug, whose face was clearly visible in the video trending on social media, is arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
