Eight months after the demolition of their houses allegedly carried out by an official of the Benin Palace and some others, residents of the Ulegun Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area have again protested to the Edo State Government House over what they describe as a delay in retributive justice.
The owners of the demolished properties want the State Government to urgently look into the matter as they have been patient enough.
In August 2022, Residents of the Ulegun Community were at the Edo State Government house to protest against the destruction of their houses.

The Residents alleged that an official of the Benin Palace spearheaded the demolition.
To this end, the Palace Functionary claimed that the land upon which the houses were built belonged to the Benin Palace.
Eight months down the line, they are back with placards bearing different inscriptions to lament the untold hardships the incident has caused them.
Although the matter is currently in court, they want the State Government’s intervention to fast-track the process of restitution as their patience is fast running out.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Osaigbovo Iyoha received the protesters at the state house,
appealing to them to continue to tow the path of peace.
He says the State Government is aiming for a peaceful resolution of the matter.
