The Benue State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of its immediate past Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh, for a period of six months over an alleged plot to impeach the current Speaker, Alfred Emberga.

Recall that the former Speaker was suspended in August for three months for an alleged plot to impeach the executive Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Member representing Kyan State Constituency Terna Shimawua who moved the motion for the extension of the suspension duration informed the house that while on suspension, the former Speaker joined former Majority leader Saater Tiseer and former minority leader Audu Michael to plot the impeachment of the Speaker of the House.

He said the former Speaker has not lived up to expectations as a leader by not showing the spirit of sportsmanship during the change of leadership in the house and called for the extension of his suspension by six months until he shows remorse and apologises to the house.

A statement by Zape Michael Upaa, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker, also reveals that the House adopted a motion calling on Benue State House of Assembly to recognize MakTown Flyers Basketball Club of Makurdi for outstanding performances in the Nigerian Premier Basketball League 2025, defeating Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club to emerge winners.

Also during Plenary, Member representing Okpokwu State Constituency Anthony Angom defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC).

The Speaker of the House Alfred Emberga announced his resignation from the PDP during plenary and formally welcomed him into the APC fold.

Anthony Angom cited internal crisis in the party which has affected the Peace, unity, integrity and functionality of its structure across the country.

He said the move is to enable him to align himself and his constituency with the vision of the Governor for a greater Benue.

The house also screened and confirmed Joseph Kwaghgba as chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS).

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia had in a letter sent to the house which was read on the floor of the house by the Honourable Speaker, sought for the screening and confirmation of Kwaghgba as chairman of BIRS.

Joseph Kwaghgba, a graduate of Accounting from the Benue State University Makurdi is a chartered Accountant and professional Banker with deep knowledge in the finance and energy sector.
