Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has approved the appointment of Professor Timothy Terseer Alaba as new Vice Chancellor of the Father Adasu University, Makurdi, FAUM formerly known as the Benue State University.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula indicates that the visitor to the institution made the approval following due process leading to the appointment as was carried out by the Governing Board and other relevant authorities. He said the appointment takes immediate effect.
Professor Alabar who is currently the Dean of Postgraduate School in the university hails from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Congratulating the new Vice Chancellor, Governor Alia charged him to ensure he provides visionary, ethical, and inclusive leadership that will advance academic excellence, and foster cutting-edge research, and nurture character as well as competence.
He says, “You must uphold the autonomy and integrity of the university, promote a culture of merit, innovation, and accountability, and ensure prudent stewardship of human and material resources”
The Professor of Marketing who started his academic practice with the Father Adasu University from 1999 till date has previously held different positions of responsibilities including Dean, Faculty of Administration and Management; Acting Vice-Chancellor, Head, Department of Business Management, Acting Chairman Consultant Services, Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies; Deputy Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences;
Coordinator, Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Department of Business Management; Examination Officer, Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
Meanwhile, Governor Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedicated commitment to judicial independence, integrity, and accountability, declaring that under his leadership, the judiciary has regained its rightful dignity and autonomy.
The Governor made this known at Government House Makurdi during the swearing-in of Franca Yuwa, as a Judge of the Benue State High Court.

He urged the newly sworn-in judge to uphold the highest standards of judicial conduct. Governor Alia said her elevation to the position of judge of the State High Court was earned by merit and not through favouritism or patronage.
Alia said his administration has drawn a clear line between the executive arm of government and the judiciary adding that the courts would neither be intimidated nor used as instruments of political convenience.
The chief executive who disclosed that more judges have been appointed to the high bench under his administration also pointed out that his government has improved conditions of service, invested in court infrastructure, and consistently respected judicial autonomy.
The Governor warned against undue influence, pressure, and inducement, reminding the newly inaugurated judge that judicial authority carries immense responsibility over rights, freedoms, reputations, and lives.
Governor Alia also cautioned that while the judiciary enjoys independence, it would not be shielded from accountability, noting that independence must not translate into impunity.
